We gather at Sofia airport for an evening direct flight to Sri Lanka's international airport - Matala. With excitement for all that awaits us in the coming days, we head to this extraordinarily beautiful destination.

In the morning hours of the day, we are met by the local tour operator at the airport in Matala, who accompanies us to the organized transfer to the hotel provided for our one-night stay in Yala. The journey is uneventful - only about half an hour, after which we indulge in a short rest because the most exciting part of the day will be in the late afternoon! A jeep safari in Yala National Park - home to elephants, wild buffalo, sambar, spotted deer, and giant squirrels! This is one of the best parks in the country and one of the best places to see elephants - the UdaWalawe Dam, home to over 600 individuals! Along with the famous herds of elephants, here you'll encounter mongooses, sloth bears, an extraordinary variety of birds, beautiful peacocks, and even if you're lucky the occasional proud leopard showing off its majestic posture, or giant crocodiles showing up just to show off their size! After this exciting adventure, we return to the hotel where a deliciously prepared aromatic dinner awaits us.

Traveling through winding roads and lush green valleys, tea estates situated on the slopes and banks of the hills, with tiny streams and waterfalls and beautiful misty mountains, one can arrive at Nuwara Eliya town which offers you everything, as any other town does and more. Today after breakfast, our exciting program continues! We check out of the hotel to head to our next two destinations. The first stop on our way is the small mountain village of Ela, where time has stood still - stunning views, cloud-clad hills, and tea plantations. Enjoy all that surrounds you, and what we will see along the way because every corner of the island is a traveler's paradise! Here, historical landmarks show up from beneath the lush scenery, and legendary stories weave in wonderfully to add even more impact! We have a refreshing cup of tea and head to our next destination, Nuwara Eliya. The journey takes about two hours, but is extremely scenic - winding roads, lush green valleys and tea farms dotted along hillsides and banks, small streams and waterfalls, and looking up - beautiful misty mountains! Often referred to as 'Little England', this exquisite place truly has the feel of a British village with its colonial-era bungalows, Tudor-style hotels, well-kept hedgerows, and beautiful gardens. In fact, Nuwara Eliya was once a favorite getaway in the cool climate of Sri Lanka's English and Scottish tea industry pioneers. Today, the main attraction here is the huge tea plantations and factories located in the very center of the island of Sri Lanka (Ceylon), from where the famous Ceylon tea comes! Here the tea bushes are surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees, majestic cypress trees, and meadows on which mint grows and thanks to this the drink acquires special, unique flavours. Tea has been grown here for more than 150 years and its quality has remained unchanged throughout that time. Its unique climate, often covered with an early morning mist and the cold tangy air and its fresh and invigorating atmosphere offer a typical English environment. Nuwara Eliya, which is situated among some of the most beautiful tea estates also has a Golf course, Race Course, horses, Rose gardens, and British-style houses which all add up to a perfect holiday retreat, offering a level of perfection without equal.

After breakfast, our journey continues to our next destinations! Of course, the first stop is for a cup of tea at the tea plantation, where besides the view of the endless green, we will sweeten ourselves with a traditional pastry. The road takes us to the second-largest city on the island, Kandy, the last royal capital of Sri Vikrama Rajasinghe. This city looks beautiful even when it rains! Covered most days of the year with fog, here one finds colorful houses against a backdrop of lovely green forest and picturesque landscape, and three-wheelers plying everywhere on the streets. Beautifully dressed women in silk sarees catch our eye, and the feeling of exciting hours rushes over us! The holy city of Kandy is famous for the most revered Buddhist temple on the island - the Temple of the Tooth of Buddha! We head to this mystical place to see for ourselves. According to legend, the Buddha's canine tooth was rescued from a funeral pyre in India five centuries BC and secretly brought to Sri Lanka four centuries AD in the hair of an unknown princess. It was believed that whoever possessed the tooth had the divine right to rule this earth! This is the most important Buttian recluse, which is actually enclosed in a golden dagoba-shaped coffin, which contains a series of six dagoba coffins decreasing in size, down to the smallest one, which contains the sacred tooth. Our day continues with a walk or a break with the option of a delicious lunch in the trendy Kandy City Bazaar. We then head to a place of utmost importance, the National Museum, which will shed light on the rich heritage preserving Sri Lanka to the present day. The literary sources, including technical texts such as the Vaijayantha Tantra and the Manjusritsitrakarma Sastra, provide the necessary resource material for the study of the island's ancient arts and crafts. Combined with this historical information, we will visit the gem museum! This fascinating country is widely known for the beauty of its scenery as well as the exquisite gemstones mined here for centuries. This is the reason why it is considered impossible to find a crown anywhere in the world without a gemstone from Sri Lanka! To round off this wonderful day, you are treated to entertainment with just the right dose of Kandyan culture - a dance and drumming performance! With a number of stunning dance moves and stunts originating from across the island, this will be one of the most memorable moments of your Sri Lankan experience! An ancient art form, a tradition passed down for centuries, will unfold before you to transport you to another dimension! After breakfast, our journey continues to the next destinations! We head to Dambulla through Matale to visit a spice farm. Nestled in a beautiful central hilly area, just half an hour's drive from Kandy is Matale - one of the most picturesque hilly regions on the island. Captivating landscapes and lush vegetation surround the entire area, with shades of green overflowing everywhere! This region is gaining popularity due to the abundance of cultivated areas with various spices such as cloves, curry, nutmeg, and cardamom, so we don't miss the opportunity to visit a roadside farm! Our journey continues and takes us to the rock cave complex in Dambulla, which is iconic for Sri Lanka! The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plains, and in five separate caves, there are about 150 absolutely stunning statues and paintings of Buddha - some of the most important and expressive works of religious art on the island. The images of Buddha were first created here over 2000 years ago, and over the centuries, subsequent kings have added and embellished the cave art. We will see statues and paintings related to the life of Gautama Buddha, the deities Ganesha and Vishnu, and frescoes that include the depiction of the temptation of the demon Mara and Buddha's first sermon! This is an exceptional heritage, and its overall impact will leave you breathless with admiration. The caves offer a beautiful view of the surroundings, including Sigiriya, which is clearly visible about 20 km away. In the evening, we settle into a hotel in this area designated for our overnight stay, where a delicious dinner and rest await us.

Following breakfast, today's itinerary will once again present us with a schedule filled with impressions! Our first stop is a visit to the Sigiriya complex - the Lion's Rock! Rising dramatically from the central plains, this mysterious rock is perhaps the most impressive sight in Sri Lanka! Almost vertical walls soar to a flat summit where the ruins of an ancient civilization are located, offering captivating views of mist-wrapped forests. According to historical records, the rock was inhabited in ancient times. In the 5th century BCE, mountain monasteries with numerous tunnels and caves began to be constructed there. All of them served as secure hideouts for their inhabitants. The spectacular terraced summit of the rock is considered the site chosen by King Kasyapa for his fortified capital after he had assassinated his father. Today, only low foundations of structures remain, but it's still hard not to be captivated by the astonishing views from this lofty perch, which extend for kilometers through an amazing ocean of greenery, the crowns of the forest trees. The day continues towards the village of Hiriwadunna, where we will enjoy a bullock cart ride, a boat ride, and a cooking lesson! After the wonderful experiences, in the evening, we return to the hotel where a delicious and aromatic dinner awaits us, followed by a well-deserved rest.

Today, after breakfast, we continue towards Colombo, but before that, we have planned a stop that we cannot miss - Pinnawala. This enclosed forested area, supported by the "Born Free" foundation, serves as an interim home for orphaned elephant calves. After successful rehabilitation, they are reintroduced to the wild. Although we won't be able to get up close to them, observing them during feeding and bathing is very interesting and will provide us with many enjoyable moments! Next is the capital, Colombo, once known as the "Garden City of the East," now a modern and developing city. The gateway to the enchanting Sri Lanka, it boasts a rich colonial heritage and represents a blend of races, religions, and cultures. Colombo is full of contrasts - an eclectic mix of glossy hotels and chic office buildings juxtaposed with ancient beautiful houses with red tiles. During our tour here, we will explore the remnants of the British colonial era - a journey back in time with antique mahogany stairs, secretaries' offices, green stained glass, and old fire trucks. The broad waterfront promenade we stroll along offers impressive views, remnants of a Hindu temple with intricate stone carvings, and a Dutch church dating back to 1749. Other interesting places, such as the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall, the replica of the Aukana Buddha, and Independence Square, are part of the impressions we will create here. At the end of the day, we leave Colombo to head to our hidden tropical retreat amid coconut plantations and golden beaches - Wadduwa! We settle into the hotel, where we are greeted with a fragrant and delicious dinner. Days filled with sunshine, relaxation, and Ayurvedic treatments or fun water activities lie ahead!
