CORFU
GALLERY OF SEA LANDSCAPES
Corfu is the second largest Greek island in the Ionian Sea, and its central town is named after a river nymph from mythology - Kerkyra. According to legend, Poseidon fell in love with her beauty and kidnapped her to an uninhabited island, which he named in her honor. Modern history tells of numerous battles over the island. Its rulers were Rome, Byzantium, Naples, Venice, Austria, France, Russia, and England. In the 19th century, England voluntarily ceded Corfu to Greece. Traces of all the rulers can be seen on the island today, but it is the beauty that captivates everyone! Densely covered with olive trees, cypresses, and lemons, it is often called the garden of the gods for its unrivaled natural beauty. Sea, sun, and wind have sculpted an impressive coastline, and golden sand and snow-white pebble beaches, and finely carved rocks resemble sculptures from a modern gallery. Corfu holidays are also renowned for the food - the many cultural influences are expressed in dishes that display Italian touches and the island's delicious Mediterranean produce.
