Day 1

BARI - THE CAPITAL OF PUGLIA

Our holiday starts with a meeting at Sofia airport for a direct flight to Bari. Transfer awaits us at the airport as we explore the historic part of Bari, the capital of the Puglia region. It is the largest city in the region and of crucial historical importance for Italy! Our walk will start from Piazza Ferrarese, a place located between the old and the new town. Then we will walk along one of the major boulevards, the famous public buildings, and the oldest theatre, Teatro Comunale Piccini. The old part of Bari is unique because of its authentic atmosphere - at the entrance, the town's hosts make homemade pasta, the fruit and vegetable stalls in front of the houses always offer fresh goods, and in the narrow streets you can hear speech in so many languages that we will be transported back in time when merchants and shoppers from all over the world used to come here! And to make the "Bari experience" complete, we'll stop in front of the city's most famous bakery, serving focaccia (hard grain bread, with tomatoes and olive oil), which was established way back in 1508! After this great start to our vacation, it's time to head to the hotel chosen for our stay. Our journey takes about an hour and a half, and upon our arrival, a delicious dinner awaits us for rest and relaxation.

Day 2

A FAIRY TALE IN PULIA - ALBEROBELLO

After breakfast, you can have free time on your own and enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches or join our additional offer: the fabulous capital of Trulli and Locorotondo - Alberobello! Alberobello is a town with such a special charm that it is hard to find yourself in which country you are or on which planet you are. The capital of Trulli seems to transport you to a children's storybook. Trulli is small white houses with conical limestone roofs, built without any solder resembling the shape of an Eskimo igloo. Close to the main square is the church of Santa Lucia, and the city's Territorio Museum, where one can see the history of the creation of these small houses and how their inhabitants lived in them. Alberobello will also offer you other small authentic museums that work out everything that a farmhouse can produce, such as - the wine museum and the olive oil museum. Our day continues as we head to Locorotondo, one of the 100 most beautiful small towns in Italy, whose historic center is built in an oval shape, hence its name. It is a town of beautiful balconies, aromatic wines, homemade liqueurs, and sweets. Soak up the wonderful atmosphere and indulge in tasting local specialties! At nightfall, we return to the hotel where a delicious dinner, rest, and relaxation await us.

Day 3

MATERA - THE ROCK CITY

After breakfast, you can have free time on your own and enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches or join our additional offer: Matera - a city in the rocks! Matera is a unique settlement located in the province of Basilicata and is the third longest-inhabited human settlement in the world! The natural caves in the limestone tuff revealed when the Gravina River cuts its gorge, attracted the first inhabitants about 7,000 years ago. Today, when you look across the gorge at the huddled cave dwellings of Matera, you feel like you've been transported to the ancient Holy Land. Old Matera is divided by a ridge into two parts, the Sasso Barisano, and the Sasso Caveoso, and in the middle rises a graceful cathedral. Once the Sasso, which contains little more than one-room caves, was in such appalling poverty and unthinkable living conditions that in the 1950s Matera was declared "the shame of Italy" and the inhabitants relocated. The ancient part of the city remained uninhabited. People called it "The Dead City" until cinema became interested in the place and discovered that it could be used as an impressive natural "set". UNESCO's recognition of Matera as a World Heritage Site was not long in coming. Take a walk through the narrow streets and feel the atmosphere, and get to know the lifestyle of the former rock dwellers, you will surely be very impressed! At nightfall, we return to the hotel where a delicious dinner, rest, and relaxation await us.

Day 4

OSTUNI AND POLIGNANO A MARE - THE PEARL OF THE ADRIATIC

After breakfast we will have an information meeting with the tour operator to discuss everything that surrounds us, possible additional excursions and the days on which they will take place. You can have your own free time and enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches or join our additional offer - a full day excursion to the pearl of the Adriatic - Ostuni and Polignano a Mare! Polignano a Mare is a town built on impressive cliffs and in front of its gates used to be the Roman road "Via Traiana"! Nowadays, the coastline is known for its crystal clear sea, its twenty kilometres of beach and the large number of caves carved into the cliffs. The specific architecture complements the natural beauty of this town, known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic"! The terraces in the old town offer spectacular panoramic views, while the wind carries the sounds of the well-known song Volare - first sung by Domenico Modugno, who was born here. Feel the spirit of this small charming town and relax in its mesmerizing atmosphere with the smell of freshly baked croissants! Next, depart for Ostuni - the "White City". This city shimmers like a pearly white tiara that stretches over three hills, and at its centre is the magnificent cathedral. Small white streets filled with shops and a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea are just some of the places that await to make your visit unforgettable! At dusk we return to the hotel where a delicious dinner, rest and relaxation awaits us.

Day 5

THE ANCIENT TOWN OF MARTINA FRANCA

After breakfast, you can have free time on your own and enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches or join our additional offer: a full-day excursion to Martina Franca, a typical Italian ancient town that is a wonderful example of Baroque art! Exquisite Baroque and Rococo buildings, as well as spacious squares and curving iron balconies that almost touch the narrow streets, dazzling white houses, and blood-red geraniums, are the details that accompany us throughout our tour here! We will walk along the Piazza Roma, which is also the largest open space in the old town with a green garden in a triangular shape that offers a unique view of the castle designed by Bernini in the 17th century. Our tour of the Old Town includes the Palazzo Ducale and the Church of St. Martin's Church, and an included tasting of local delicacies of Capocollo meat and aromatic wines. Enjoy your time here and make it a great memory! At nightfall, we return to the hotel where a delicious dinner, rest, and relaxation await us.

Day 6

LECCE AND OTRANTO

After breakfast, you can have free time on your own and enjoy the wonderful sandy beaches or join our additional offer: a full-day excursion to Lecce and Otrando! Lecce is the Baroque capital of Puglia, bequeathed by its 17th century architects, the city has a rich array of Baroque buildings and possesses completeness and homogeneity. In fact, Lecce's architecture is so distinctive that it has earned its own nickname - barocco leccese (Lecce Baroque) - an expressive and highly decorative embodiment of the genre, replete with gargoyles, asparagus columns and cavalier gremlins. Our guide will walk us through the most significant buildings in the city, such as the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, the Doge's Palace, the City Fortress, the Roman Theatre and some of the remarkable churches. After lunch, we will visit Otranto - which served as the title and inspiration for the first Gothic novel in history, The Castle of Otranto by English writer Horace Walpole. The town is extremely rich in history, and in its compact old quarter you can enjoy a multi-layered past - Greek, Roman, Turkish and Napoleonic, as well as the Cathedral, possessing one of the most beautiful medieval mosaics! At dusk we return to our hotel where a delicious dinner, rest and relaxation awaits.

Day 7

BEACH AND ENTERTAINMENT

Today we leave you with a day planned just for the beach, fun, and comfort in the hotel area! Enjoy the summer emotions with a glass of a cool cocktail and indulge in the complete timelessness that Southern Italy offers you!

Day 8

DEPARTURE

And now that our vacation is over, today we wake up early, and after breakfast, ready to go, we head to Bari airport. Our flight is with Wizz Air taking off at 7:40 and landing at 9:55 local time in Sofia. We part ways with the group and we are sure that the memories we have gained from the fabulous Puglia are priceless!

GENUINE BEAUTY

An impressively located small town built on jagged cliffs forming several peninsulas, dotted with caves and offering beautiful panoramic views! Imagine a beach surrounded by cliffs and blue sea all the way to the horizon. Slow-moving time, wine, and Italian idyll. Apart from the beach and sun, the city also offers historical attractions such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Museum of Paleontology. Don't forget the sunglasses and that life in Italy is lived slowly and relish.

 

LECCE

ELEGANCE AND BAROQUE

If Puglia were a movie, Lecce would play the lead. The magnificent Baroque buildings that lend completeness and homogeneity have carved out a style of their own in the Baroque architectural style - Barocco access (Lecce Baroque) - an expressive and highly decorative embodiment of the genre, replete with gargoyles, asparagus columns, and cavalier gremlins. Lecce is a bustling, elegant, peaceful university town just a stone's throw from the Adriatic and Ionian seas.

 

A CITY IN THE SCALES

Matera is the jewel of the Basilica and a city in southern Italy famous for its houses carved into the rocks. Until the 1950s, most of Matera's inhabitants lived in these homes, after which they were forcibly evicted. Today, the buildings dug into the cliffs are the main tourist attraction and are often used as natural backdrops for films, one of the most famous Hollywood productions filmed here being "The Passion of the Christ".

We present a hotel with a great location, only about a kilometer from the center of Nova Siri and 100 km from the largest city in the area, Bari. The resort is set in a lovely pine forest that allows you a relaxing holiday, and the long sandy beach is 250 meters from the hotel, passing through the shady path of the cool forest on the way there. Each room has one umbrella and two sun loungers, ensuring timeliness under the rays of the South Italian sun! The Akiris Hotel is part of the Akiris Resort.
